First Carlist War, (1833-1840): Anti-clerical riots of 1835 in Barcelona, 1845. Revolts against the religious orders that took place as a result of their support for the Carlist side. After the "Bullanga of Barcelona" on 25 July 1835, the Captain General of Catalonia, General Llauder, sent military forces to the city under the command of Field Marshal Bassa. On 5 August, he went to the Captaincy building where he was rebuked by the crowd demanding his resignation. When he refused, the crowd invaded the building, shot him dead and threw his body off the balcony, after which he was dragged through the streets until he was thrown into a bonfire on the Ramblas. A mob drags the corpse of General Bassa (Pedro Nolasco Bassa de Girona). From "Panorama Español, Crónica Contemporánea", Volume III, Madrid, 1845.
