The Spanish-American War: the United States torpedo-boat "Winslow" in action at Cardenas, 1898. 'U.S.S. Hudson; U.S.S. Wilmington. Sketched by our Special Artist with the American Fleet, Mr. H. C. Seppings Wright. "The 'Wilmington' having signalled the 'Winslow' to go in and cut out a Spanish gun-boat, that was used, it appears, as a decoy, a masked battery opened fire, and one of the first shots burst the forward boiler. She signalled the 'Hudson' which was kept under fire for about an hour before she succeeded in towing her out of danger." From a letter despatched May 14 by Mr. Seppings Wright'. From "Illustrated London News", 1898.
