Various portraits, 1898. 'The Duke of Manchester is half English, a quarter German, and a quarter Spanish; Mr. George J. Symons, F.R.S [has made] observations of the rainfall of some forty years; Lord Edmond Fitzmaurice, M.P., Commissioner for the reorganisation of the European provinces of Turkey and Crete under the Berlin Treaty; Mr. H. C. Fischer, C.M.G., [retiring] after forty-one years of service, from the Telegraph Department of the Post Office, in which he [was] Controller of the Central Office at St. Martin's-le-Grand; the late Nurse McDougall: from Bombay: news that Nurse McDougall has fallen a victim to the plague...caught by her during her devoted tendance of the patients she had gone out to nurse - one sufferer having a fit of coughing as she bent over the bed, which sent the dreaded contagion to her eye. [She] has left...among the plague-stricken people memories of her thoughtfulness and skill which will long endure; the late Mr. Frederick Tennyson, [poet, brother of Alfred and Charles Tennyson]; Major H. S. FitzGerald has just been appointed Lieutenant-Colonel to the 2nd Yorubas West African Field Force; the late Mr. F.
