Advertisement for Scott's Emulsion, 1898. 'Why you Cough and Cough. At first you take a slight cold. No matter WHY you take it; you simply take it. Then you take a cough mixture, or a tonic, or stimulants, and think you have cured it. In a short time another cold - a worse one. More mixtures and so-called "home remedies." And so you go on until the worst cold of all lands you flat on your back with a fever and acute inflammation. Your system needed added nourishment in the first place, but you did not think of that. It needed cod-liver oil, glycerine and hypophosphites. You know it now, and perhaps think of Scott's Emulsion, because you know that Scott's Emulsion is the most palatable and most perfectly blended form of these remedies. Well, it is not too late to begin taking Scott's Emulsion even when you are flat on your back. But it is a great pity people so frequently forget that chronic coughing springs from a weakened system. Scott's Emulsion does not mean ANY emulsion. It means SCOTT'S. SCOTT & BOWNE, Ltd, MANUFACTURING CHEMISTS, LONDON, E.C., ALL CHEMISTS. 2/6 AND 4/6'. From "Illustrated London News", 1898.
