Portrait of the Younger Elector Frederick the Wise of Saxony, c1490. Frederick III (1463-1525), also known as Frederick the Wise, was Prince-elector of Saxony from 1486 to 1525. He is mostly remembered for the protection given to his subject Martin Luther, seminal figure of the Protestant Reformation.
