The Right Hon. William Court Gully, Speaker of the House of Commons, 1895. Engraving from a photograph. 'Sir William Court Gully, Q.C., M.P., was introduced to the Queen on May 11 as Speaker of the House of Commons, and was sworn a member of the Privy Council. In his new post Mr. Gully has already shown that he possesses many of the qualities which ought to distinguish the Speaker of so august an assembly as the House of Commons. His son, Mr. Edward Gully, has entered upon the duties of Secretary to the Speaker, on the retirement of Viscount Duncannon, better known as Mr. Edward Ponsonby. The latter has earned general esteem from members of all parties, and will be much missed'. From "Illustrated London News", 1895.
