Gift to the Empress of Russia, 1895. 'A handsome carriage-clock was recently presented to the Empress by the ladies of the English colony in St. Petersburg. The body of the clock is of the finest tortoiseshell, the corners and handle of beautifully chased pure gold, the handle studded with diamonds. An imperial crown, in diamonds, surmounts the dial, and beneath it is the initial "A," also in diamonds. This clock was designed and manufactured by the Goldsmiths' and Silversmiths' Company, 112, Regent Street, London'. Alexandra Feodorovna, born Princess Alix of Hesse and by Rhine (1872-1918) was the last empress of Russia as the consort of Tsar Nicholas II. Tsarina Alexandra was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria. She and the Tsar and their children were executed in 1917. From "Illustrated London News", 1895.
