The late Admiral Beechey, 1895. Engraving from a photograph. 'A son who inherited a good deal of his father's art was Admiral Richard Bridges Beechey, who died on March 8. He joined the Navy as a cadet in 1821, and served three years later as a midshipman on board the Naiad at the blockade of Algiers. He was on the Blossom during its voyage of discovery in the Pacific, and twice cooperated in the Polar expeditions of Captain Parry and the late Sir John Franklin. He retired as captain in 1870, and went to Southsea to spend the rest of his days. The son of the late Sir William Beechey, R.A., he was himself an admirable sea-painter, and some of his pictures are at Osborne. He was eighty- six years old at the time of his death'.
