The late Mrs. German Reed, 1895. 'POPULAR ENTERTAINER RECENTLY DECEASED. Within the space of eight days three distinguished popular favourites, representing three periods of German Reed's Entertainment, have passed away in the persons of Mr. Alfred German Reed, Mr. Corney Grain, and Mrs. German Reed..., who died on March 18. Miss Priscilla Horton was born on Jan. 1, 1818, and at the age of fourteen appeared as Kate in "The Beggar of Bethnal Green." She sang duets with Miss Poole before William IV., acted as Ariel with Macready at Covent Garden Theatre, and was the original Georgina Vesey in "Money." She was a member of Mr. Charles Kean's company at the Haymarket, and married in 1844 Mr. Thomas German Reed, the conductor of the orchestra there. Afterwards she played at Drury Lane and the Olympic till 1854, when she went on a tour in the provinces, giving a programme which was the forerunner of the Entertainment. This latter commenced modestly in 1855 in St. Martin's Hall, Long Acre, and consisted of songs and character sketches carried out by Mr. and Mrs. German Reed. It succeeded so well that it was removed to the Gallery of Illustration, Regent Street, where bright little vaudevilles were added and the company increased.' From "Illustrated London News", 1895.
