James Wardrop Senior, (1738-1830), c1810-1820. The father of James Wardrop FRCSEd FRCS (1782-1869) was a Scottish surgeon. He was born in Torbane Hill, Linlithgowshire (now in West Lothian). He lived at various times in Edinburgh, London, St Andrews, Paris and Vienna. He became an Ophthalmic surgeon and was appointed surgeon-extraordinary by the Prince Regent, the future George IV. Wardrop was an early contributer to and assisted in the founding of 'The Lancet' in 1823.
