Légende
Robert Brough, 1905. Scott painted this portrait shortly after Brough's tragic train crash death in 1905. Having also studied at the Royal Scottish Academy, the two Aberdeen artists were contemporaries and Scott had taken inspiration from Brough's flamboyant colours and brushstrokes. Travelling the world to explore different artistic movements, Brough took inspiration from and employed the methods of the Impressionists and Post Impressionists. The artist is today remembered as a society portraitist and for his vigorous sketches and pastel drawings in which he captures fleeting moments, using broad and flamboyant brushstrokes.
