THIS IS A VIAL OF CARTER'S LITTLE LIVER PILLS. It is secured in a white wrapper engraved in blue, and wrapped in a paper which contains the directions for use. 1s. 1½. at the Chemist's. The Vial contains Forty little Sugar-coated Pills, far cheaper than pennyworths of doubtful medicine. One Pill is a dose'. Patent medicine formulated by Samuel J. Carter of Pennsylvania in 1868. The pills, with their trademark black crow, were claimed to cure headache, constipation, dyspepsia, and biliousness. From "Illustrated London News", 1895.
