Man in Armour...The...foreign artists and art-students in Rome are yearly accustomed to celebrate the month of May with a festive social excursion in the Campagna, displaying much ingenious fancy in the imitation of romantic or antiquarian features of pageantry ; and that which took place this year, was of an imposing as well as of an amusing character...The bronze equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius seemed to have descended from its pedestal on the Capitol for a ride into the country; while two of the Greek heroes of the Iliad, Ajax Telamon and Ajax Teucer...There were flags flying on the battlements of the Tor delle Cervarette; and the renowned Prince and Princess of that feudal castle, in a car of mediaeval pattern drawn by six horses, issued forth to meet their guests, who were presently entertained with a generous banquet and plenty of wholesome Roman wine'.
