Sketches from the Picture Exhibitions: "The Witches' Dance", G. P. Jacomb Hood, Royal Academy, 1890. Engraving of a painting. 'Gallery XI. contains a few interesting works, among which Mr. Jacomb-Hood's "Witches' Dance" (1166), a fantastic scene, remarkable for the easy movement of the figures and the sedateness of the colour. This picture, however, shows the danger to which imaginative works are exposed in our practical age, for in the hearing of the present writer it was unhesitatingly described by a lady as St. John the Baptist preaching in the wilderness; and by her companion, a clergyman by his dress, as the lifting up of the Brazen Serpent in the wilderness!'
