The British Squadron cruising in Mozambique Channel under Rear-Admiral Sir E. R. Fremantle, 1890. 'Curaçoa. Turquoise. Brisk. Algerine. Raleigh. Calliope. Boadicea. Reindeer. Satellite. Kingfisher. During the recent dispute with Portugal concerning the territorial dominion on the Zambesi and Shiré Rivers, a combined British naval squadron, formed at Zanzibar, of her Majesty's ships belonging to the East India, Cape of Good Hope, and West Coast of Africa stations, with H.M.S. Calliope and H.M.S. Satellite, on their way home, and H.M.S. Conquest, detached from the China station, was sent on special service to cruise in the Mozambique Channel, under command of Rear-Admiral Sir E. Fremantle, who hoisted his flag on board H.M.S. Boadicea. Rear-Admiral R. Wells, on board H.M.S. Raleigh, was second in command. There was, happily, no occasion for any hostile operations. Zanzibar being the rendezvous of the fleet, a regatta was held for the amusement of the officers and crews. The first day was devoted to sailing matches'. From "Illustrated London News", 1890.
