Destruction of the fleet - burning of their ships, Aztec Empire, 1890. Hernán Cortés (1488-1547), Spanish conquistador of the Aztec empire. He decided to sink his ships, which were anchored in the city of Villa Rica de Veracruz, in order to avoid desertions among his own companions. Copy after a painting by Francisco Sanz.
