Brass plaque with arched head, incorporating three-quarter front port engraving of the Terra Nova between the initial moto and the name of the endowed bed. Although nearly thirty years old at the time of Captain Scott's expedition, the Terra Nova was chosen for it because of her suitability for work in the Antarctic ice.
