To Samuel Homfray Esq. The Independent Iron Master & Coal Merchant. Whose Exertions Have Benefited the town & Neighbourhood of Newport by reducing the Price of Coals. This piece is Humbly Inscribed by his Humble Servant In.o [John] Thomas'. Depiction of the record load transported by horse-drawn road train to the Newport suburb of Pillgwenlly. Samuel Homfray (1762-1822) managed the Penydarren iron works and promoted the tramway to Abercynon.
