Arthur C Marshall, Town Clerk of Mosman, 1922-1951. Additional Info: Appointed Town Clerk of Mosman in 1922 after starting in local government in 1907 at Yarralumla Shire, aged 19, as the youngest Shire Clerk ever appointed in NSW. In 1911 he was appointed Town Clerk of Lane Cove and during this period he served overseas in the First World War. While serving as Town Clerk of Mosman he compiled 'An historical sketch of Mosman' in 1924 and in the 1940s played a prominent part in preventing the Council's amalgamation. His extensive knowledge of local government meant he was well informed to provide assistance and counselling to successive Mayors and Councillors in his 29 years as Town Clerk of Mosman. Arthur Clive Marshall died after a short illness while still in office on 3 March 1951, aged 63 years. As a sign of the respect and high regard he was held he was given a civic funeral at St Lukes Church Mosman.
