'The late Mr. Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot, M.P., of Penrice Castle, near Swansea, and of Margam, Port Talbot, Glamorganshire, was not only the senior member of the House of Commons - though not the oldest man - but had represented virtually the same constituency from 1830 to 1890. He was born in 1803, son of Mr. Thomas Mansel Talbot of Margam, by a daughter of the second Earl of Ilchester, and was elected for the county of Glamorgan in 1830, but since the division of the county has been M.P. for Mid-Glamorganshire. He married, in 1835, a daughter of the first Earl of Glengall: this lady died in 1846. Mr. Talbot was Lord Lieutenant of the county. He was a Liberal in politics, but did not support Mr. Gladstone's Irish Government Bill. His taste for scientific studies was attested by his being a Fellow of the Linnaean Society and of the Royal Society'. From "Illustrated London News", 1890.
