Pianoforte for Peninsular and Oriental steam-ship Paramatta, 1883. 'The beautiful pianoforte, shown in our Illustration, has been specially manufactured by Messrs. John Brinsmead and Sons, of London. The interior is fitted with the recently patented sostenente improvements, and the decorations of the exterior case have been carved by Signor Carlo Cambi, of Siena'. A sostenente or sostinente is a device on a piano for attaining a sostenuto effect, ie movement or passage whose notes are markedly prolonged. From "Illustrated London News", 1883.
