Sir Andrew Clark, Bart., M.D., 1883. Engraving from a photograph by Alexander Bassano, of '...one of the most eminent practising physicians in this country...In the Medical School of Edinburgh he gained the first-class medals and highest honours for anatomy, physiology, chemistry, botany, materia medica, surgery, pathology, and the practice of physic. He assisted Dr. Hughes Bennett in the pathological department of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary...Having, in 1854, taken his degree of M.D. at the University of Aberdeen, he began to practise in London; but he had previously, during four years, held charge of the pathological department in the Royal Naval Hospital at Haslar, and had delivered a course of lectures on the use of the microscope in practical medicine...He is Senior Physician to the London Hospital, and Lecturer on Clinical Medicine there, also President of the Clinical Society of London; he has been Lettsomian Lecturer and President of the Medical Society of London, President of the Metropolitan Counties Branch of the British Medical Association, and consulting physician to the East London Hospital for Children. He is author of many esteemed treatises and essays upon important branches of pathology and medicine'. From "Illustrated London News", 1883.
