Légende

Goods vehicles being shunted across the un-gated level crossing in High Street, Tewkesbury, seen from the street to the south, 1947. The branch line ran from the site of the original 1839 Tewkesbury station on the east side of the High Street (to the right of this photograph) down Quay Street (to the left of this photograph). The line then ran across the Mill Avon, through Healings Mill and on to the Town Quay to the rear. Locomotives were not allowed to cross the Mill Avon bridge; shunting beyond this point was carried out using horses. The locomotive shown in this photograph, a London Midland and Scottish Railway No. 3879, is an 0-6-0 Fowler 4F freight locomotive. It was based at Saltley in Birmingham at the time. It had been built in 1918 and was withdrawn and scrapped by British Railways in 1958.
