A Native Hut, South Africa, c1899. 'The above picture represents an ordinary native hut, which is the usual abode of natives all over South Africa, with the exception of some of the chiefs of the Basutos, who build square-shaped huts. Sometimes native huts are isolated, generally several are built in close proximity to one another, and invariably they are erected on the top of an eminence commanding an extensive view of the surrounding country'.
