Légende
Crucifixion-Fragment of a Croce Dipinta, between 1315-1320. The picture is a fragment of a large (around 2 m high) cross-shaped painting (la Croce dipinta)-a representation that was popular in Italian art from the middle of the 12th century. Such a type of cross was usually placed in altars or, more frequently, on the beams of churches. The painting shows a type of Christ influenced by Byzantine art as a deceased person with closed eyes and head dropping onto the arm.
