Légende

Christ Appearing to Mary Magdalene as a Gardener (Noli me tangere), 2nd half of 18th century. 'Noli me tangere' (Do not touch me) are the words said by the resurrected Christ to Mary Magdalene, when she wanted to touch him after recognising him as a gardener. This scene was described in the Gospel of John (John 20:14-18). On the left side of the painting, we see Christ in a hat, making a gesture to stop the woman kneeling in front of him and stretching her hands out to him. On Christ's feet, nail wounds are visible. Beside Mary Magdalene there is a vessel for oils and ointments.
