Légende
Saint John the Evangelist, c1360. Depicted with his attribute, an eagle holding with its claws a scroll with the first verses of his Gospel: 'In pricipio erat verbum... ' ('In the beginning was the word'). On the scroll held by the Evangelist, we read the words taken from the Creed: 'Passus sub pontio pilato crucifixus mortus et sepultus' ('Martyred under Pontius Pilate, crucified, died and buried'). In the upper part of the triangular frame of the painting there is an inscription in Catalan: 'St. John sang the Mass, in Ephesus you were buried'.
