Alexander III., the new Emperor of Russia, 1881. 'Our Portrait of the new Emperor is republished from one of the Czarevitch, as he was then, which appeared in this Journal on Dec. 23, 1876, upon the occasion of his visit to England...His Imperial Majesty Alexander Alexandrovitch (son of Alexander), who has hitherto been styled the Czarevitch and Hereditary Grand Duke of Russia, is thirty-six years of age, having been born...the second son of the late Emperor and Empress, on March 10, 1845. Upon the death of his elder brother, the Grand Duke Nicholas, on April 24, 1865, Alexander became heir to the Imperial Crown; and he married Princess Dagmar of Denmark, sister to our Princess of Wales, on Nov. 9, 1866. His Imperial Highness is well known in England, having often been here, with the Grand Duchess, his wife (the Czarevna, as she was usually called) on repeated visits to the Prince and Princess of Wales. The Grand Duchess, who is now Empress, upon her marriage and adoption into the Russian Church, exchanged her name of Dagmar for that of Marie Feodorovna. Their Imperial Majesties have four children: Nicholas, the heir-apparent, born May 18, 1868; George, born May 10, 1871; Xenia, born April 18,1875; and Michael, born Dec. 5, 1878'.
