George Stephenson, Father of Railways: the Royal George, 1881. Early steam locomotive, built in 1827. Among many new key features it notably incorporated a correctly aligned steam blastpipe. Timothy Hackworth is usually acknowledged as the inventor of this concept. Illustration published in a special supplement to celebrate the centenary of the birth of British civil engineer and mechanical engineer George Stephenson (1781-1848).
