The George Stephenson Centenary at Newcastle-On-Tyne: view in the Leazes Park, 1881. '...a popular fete...[for] George Stephenson's hundredth birthday anniversary'. Illustration published in a special supplement to celebrate the centenary of the birth of British civil engineer and mechanical engineer George Stephenson (1781-1848). Leazes Park is Grade II listed, and is the city's oldest park, opened in 1873. From "Illustrated London News", 1881.
