A desperate tussle ensued, ending in the victory of Johnson, who dragged young Ajax..., 1881. Illustration to "People I Have Met. No. XVI. - THE TUTOR". 'Llewellyn, however, had "friends" - if one must profane the word - who were resolved to avenge his cause. It was agreed in a council of war that Johnson should be nailed up - i.e., that his door should be fastened in such a way as to render the window the only means of egress. Unfortunately for the would-be perpetrators of this pleasing jest, Johnson happened to be out when they fancied he was in; and were very busy with his oak when he suddenly appeared in their midst. They fled, some up stairs, some down: all except one, a brawny churl, over six feet high, whom Johnson managed to collar. The passage was dark, and my tutor wanted to know who his man was: a purpose which his antagonist was equally anxious to frustrate. A desperate tussle ensued, ending in the victory of Johnson, who dragged young Ajax into his rooms, when the features of the latter stood revealed by the light of a moderator lamp. Then the victor released his foe, with the quiet remark, "Oh! it's you, Mr.------".' From "Illustrated London News", 1881.
