Additional Info: It is a sketch for the painting "Astronomer Copernicus, or Conversations with God" (1873)-the most similar composition to the final version. The idea to create the painting was connected to celebrating the 400th anniversary of the great astronomer's birth. The model posing for the sketch was Henryk Levittoux-a doctor, naturalist and friend of the Matejko family.
