Melchizedek and Abraham, 2nd half of 17th century. Additional Info: The theme of the painting was taken from the Old Testament and presented a meeting Archpriest Melchizedek and Abraham (Gen 14 18-20). Abraham, in armour, as the commander of the army, has returned from a victorious battle and is kneeling before Melchizedek. He presents to him trophies, some of which are a gift to the king. Shields, swords, arrows in a quiver and a red standard make up the picturesque still life in the foreground of the painting. Melchizedek is blessing the victorious army and welcoming it with bread and wine. The scene is presented against a vast mountainous landscape in the background.
