Légende
Ahasuerus, 1876. The artist presents himself in the ambiguous figure of the biblical Persian king Ahasver, who provided freedom and privileges to the Jews. Gottlieb appears here as a young man of extraordinary, oriental beauty. The dominant feeling, perceptible in the look and expression of the face, is thoughtfulness and sadness. The head tilted in a grimace of suffering, the black of the robe, were contrasted with the attributes of power and wealth. The painting was excellently developed in terms of painting. Narrowed down to shades of brown, the range of colors is the perfect background for the extremely subtle effects of a shiny tiara and earring. Anna Budzalek
