Légende
Kosciuszko's Apotheosis, 1818. Front wall of the catafalque decorated with a painting with an allegorical scene, depicting the personification of the Fatherland in a mourning robe, sitting on the steps of the Kosciuszko monument, embracing the urn with his ashes. At her feet, on the left, there is a coat of arms with a crowned eagle, the emblem of the Republic of Poland. In the middle of the composition, on the upper step of the obelisk, there is an oval portrait of Kosciuszko, showing him in a bust, dressed in a stylized chamara, girded with a general's sash, with pinned to his chest the decorations he received after the Polish-Russian war in 1792: the Order of the White Eagle and the Order of Virtuti Militari. The angel of fame crowns the image of the hero with a halo of seven stars, a sign of the highest perfection and eternity. Waclawa Milewska
