Portrait of Marcin Kazanowski (ca. 1563-1636), Field Hetman of the Crown Additional Info: Marcin Kazanowski was born around 1563. He pursued a military career during numerous wars led by the Commonwealth at the time. He took part in the campaign against the Swedes in Livonia, when he fought in the Battle of Kircholm (1605). During the Zebrzydowski rebellion, he supported the king and took part in the decisive fight against the rebels at Guzów (1607). He also participated in the expedition to Moscow and fought at Klushino (1610). In 1632 he was appointed the voivode of Podolia, and in 1633 he became the Field Crown Hetman. He went on the successful Smolensk expedition with Wladyslaw IV (1633-1634). He died shortly after that, in 1636. The portrait depicts him as a bearded man in his prime, dressed in a large fur coat and shown against the background of military tents.
