Portrait of Tomasz Kajetan Wegierski (1756-1787), c1772. Portrayed here as a sixteen-year-old young man, was a talented writer and poet. During the reign of King Stanislaw August, he was active in the literary circles of Warsaw, but briefly, as his satires gained him, influential enemies. He left the country in 1779 and lived a cosmopolitan life, constantly travelling around Europe and even reaching America. He played cards to maintain a prosperous life.
