Metropolitan Boroughs election sketches: a popular candidate, 1874. Voting in London. 'In the Tower Hamlets, on the day after the voting, when Mr. Ritchie, the Conservative, was returned at the head of the poll, his carrriage was drawn through the streets in triumph, men volunteering to do the work of horses, which is a custom that we should wish to have left in disuse'.
