The Ashantee War: paying the Fantee women carriers at Cape Coast Castle, from a sketch by our special artist, 1874. Scene from the Third Anglo-Asante War which took place from 1873-1874 between the Asante Empire led by Kofi Karikari, and the United Kingdom and its native allies led by Sir Garnet Wolseley. It ended with the Treaty of Fomena and a British victory. From "Illustrated London News", 1874.
