Cover to "Lilli Marlene" sheet music, c1930s. 'Featured by Billy Cotton and his band; by Norbert Schultze, Hans Leip and Tommie Connor'. First written in 1915 as a poem, the song was published in 1937 and was first recorded by Lale Andersen in 1939 as "Das Mädchen unter der Laterne" ("The Girl under the Lantern"). The song - spelt variously Lili Marleen, Lili Marlen, Lili Marleen, Lilli Marlene and Lily Marlene - is also well known in a version performed by Marlene Dietrich.
