Wheel of Fortune, c1520. A king presides over the wheel with a woman representing Fortune in the centre. Men cling onto the outside of the wheel; noblemen and serfs are equally powerless to escape the wheel's turning which symbolises mutability, bringing about changes in the lives of rich and poor alike. From the Troy Book and the Story of Thebes.
