Lady Jane Grey, c1553, (1834-1837). Lady Jane (1537-1554) was the great-granddaughter of Henry VII and titular queen of England for nine days in 1553. Beautiful and intelligent, at the age of 15 she reluctantly allowed herself to be put on the throne by unscrupulous politicians; her subsequent execution by Mary Tudor aroused universal sympathy. Plate 3 from "Lives of Eminent and Illustrious Englishmen, from Alfred the Great to the Latest Times", Vol 1. [Glasgow & Edinburgh, 1834-37]
