Gladstone's notes from a cabinet meeting, 1869. Before 1916 there were no formal agendas for cabinet meetings and minutes were not kept. The only records of cabinet discussion were the personal letters sent by the prime minister to the sovereign and the private notes of cabinet ministers. These are Gladstone's notes from the cabinet meeting of 10th November 1869 in which Forster's paper on education was discussed (item no.5). Other items apparently discussed include 'Peabody's remains, send to Ama. [America?] in Ship of War? Invitation to offer suggestions or queries on Irish Land say by Nov. 25? Release of Fenian prisoners in Canada'.
