Notes to a meeting about the fate of James II, 1688. Following William of Orange's invasion of England in 1688 at the invitation of a group leading Englishmen opposed to James II's pro-catholic policies, a meeting of peers was held at Windsor to decide how James should be dealt with. George Savile, Marquess of Halifax, presided over the meeting and these are his notes of its deliberations. Some Lords wanted to send James to the Tower and Halifax notes at the foot of this page, 'All spoke against his going to any of his own houses. Would not do anything that might look like treating him as a King'. James was eventually allowed to escape to France.
