Captain Cook's log-book, 1770. This is the entry for 19 April 1770 in the log-book of the 'Endeavour', the ship in which Cook made his first voyage around the world, recording his first sighting of the previously unknown eastern coast of Australia. The first column gives the hour of the day and the second and third columns the speed of the ship. At about 6pm, Cook notes, he 'Saw the land extending from N.E to West'.
