Frederick Richard Pickersgill, artist and Royal Academician, 1882. Pickersgill (1820-1900) was a painter of historical subjects as well as scenes from art and literature, contemporary life and the Bible. He became a Royal Academician in 1850, the year in which he painted the work generally regarded as his masterpiece, 'Samson Betrayed'.
