Alfred Elmore, artist and Royal Academician, 1881. Elmore (1815-1881), first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1834, when aged only 19. He became an associate of the Academy in 1845 and a full member in 1856. Born in Ireland, Elmore was primarily a painter of historical subjects, his best known work being 'Two Gentlemen of Verona' (1857), depicting a scene from the Shakespeare play of the same name.
