William Calder Marshall, sculptor, 1878. Calder Marshall was a prolific sculptor, producing poetic and ideal works in the Classical style, as well as memorial statues. He won the first prize of £700 in a competition in 1857 for his design of a monument to the Duke of Wellington, although another design was eventually adopted. He became a Royal Academician in 1852.
