'Earth Scuffer', agricultural machine, (c1770-c1820?). This machine, invented by a British farmer called Ducket, exemplified the more scientific approach to farming which developed after the invention in 1714 by Jethro Tull of the horse drawn hoe. The image is taken from the unpublished manuscript of "Elements and Practice of Agriculture" by the influential agricultural writer Arthur Young.
