Farhad carrying Shirin and her horse across the stream, c1410-c1411. Shirin is the queen of Khusrau, but is also in love with Farhad, a famous stone-cutter. When Khusrau discovers that his wife is in love with Farhad he becomes jealous and decides to test Farhad's love. He informs him that Shirin is dead. Farhad kills himself upon hearing this. Khusrau continues living with Shirin until his assassination. Shirin then kills herself and joins both her lovers.
